What
does it mean to be a 'Designated Provider'?
NCHEC awards 'Designed Provider' status to organizations
approved to offer continuing education programs for Certified
Health Education Specialists (CHES). A national, nonprofit
credentialing agency that's mission is to improve the quality
of health education practice through the establishment,
implementation and maintenance of a certification process
for health education specialists, NCHEC seeks to promote
scientific, ethical and state-of-the-art programs of professional
preparation and continuing education.

What is a continuing
education activity?
At NCHEC, we define 'continuing education' as educational
experiences that assist in the development or enhancement
of the knowledge and skills directly related to the individual's
professional occupation, and the Seven Areas of Responsibility
listed below:
- Assess individual and community needs for health education
- Plan health education strategies, interventions, and programs
- Implement health education strategies, interventions, and programs
- Conduct evaluation and research related to health education
- Administer health education strategies, interventions, and programs
- Serve as a health education resource person
- Communicate and advocate for health and health education
Continuing
education experiences may include seminars, conferences,
workshops, academic courses, satellite instruction, training
programs, and directed self-study programs.

Which Designated
Provider category should I choose?
- Single
Event Provider (SEP)
If you don't plan to offer many continuing education programs
that address the Seven Areas of Responsibility, or you
want approval for only one program (even if it will be
offered more than once in a year), consider applying to
become a Single Event Provider (SEP). (You may use the
universal provider application form if you are already
approved to offer the event for continuing education to
another health profession.)
- Multiple
Event Provider
(MEP)
If you plan to offer several continuing education events
that address the Seven Areas of Responsibility, you might
be eligible to become a Multiple Event Provider (MEP).
- Annual
Event Provider
(AEP)
If you have sponsored a regional or national annual meeting
or conference for at least five consecutive years, you
may qualify to become an Annual Event Provider (AEP).
