NCHEC Applauds SOPHE
NCHEC would like to recognize the advocacy work of SOPHE to expand the workforce of CHES/MCHES that address the diabetes epidemic. Recently, SOPHE successfully petitioned ADA to include CHES and MCHES in the ADA Guidelines for Diabetes Self-Management and Treatment. These guidelines are used by health insurers to determine third-party reimbursement for services.

In 2013, NCBDE approved SOPHE's request to allow MCHES to be eligible to qualify for the exam to become a Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE®). Beginning January 1, 2014, professionals with an MCHES credential will be eligible to submit an application to become a CDE®. Please note there are additional requirements needed to sit for the CDE®. Visit http://www.ncbde.org for more information on eligibility.

NCHEC appreciates and applauds SOPHE commitment and dedication to advance the health education profession.  To read SOPHE's full press release visit their Website at http://www.sophe.org/MCHES_Diabetes_Educator.cfm
