Research Studies Being Conducted for the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing, Inc. (NCHEC)

Research studies are being conducted to provide NCHEC and the Health Education Profession with information to strengthen professional preparation, strengthen the CHES credential, market the CHES credential, and allow the public to better understand who those are who hold the CHES credential.

During Spring Semester 2008 (January 2008 through April 2008), James F. McKenzie, PhD, MPH, CHES, Professor at Ball State University (BSU) in Muncie, IN, and member of NCHEC's Division Board for Certification of Health Education Specialists (DBCHES), is spending his sabbatical conducting several research studies for NCHEC. Dr. McKenzie, working with one of his colleagues from BSU, Denise M. Seabert, PhD, CHES, is conducting three studies:

  1. Use of Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) Examination Data by Professional Preparation Programs.
  2. Who holds the Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) credential and why?
  3. Why do Certified Health Education Specialists allow their CHES certification to lapse?

If you are selected to participate in one of the studies, your cooperation would be greatly appreciated by both NCHEC and the researchers. The studies are expected to be completed by summer 2008. If you have any questions about how NCHEC plans to use the results of the studies, you may contact Linda Lysoby, Executive Director, NCHEC, 1541 Alta Drive, Suite 303, Whitehall, PA, 18052-5642, (888) 624-3248, ext. 13, llysoby@nchec.org.
