Credentialing Excellence in Health Education

Computer-Based Testing

The CHES® and MCHES® examinations administered by the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing, Inc., will be transitioning to a computer-based testing (CBT) system beginning in October of 2018. Eligible exam candidates will be able to utilize professional, secure, technology-enabled global testing centers, as well as an expanded range of testing dates and locations.

Exam eligibility will continue to be determined through the NCHEC office.  For more information on exam eligibility, click here.

Registration for the 1st CHES® and MCHES® computer-based examination will open on May 1st, 2018.

Benefits of CBT

Larger Testing Window. Testing windows are set within the examination months of April (Spring) and October (Fall) of each year. Each window will be open for 10 days.

  • Fall 2018 exam window: Thursday, October 11th 2018, until Saturday, October 20st, 2018
  • Spring 2019 exam window: Thursday, April 11th, 2019 until Saturday, April 20th, 2019

Easy Scheduling.  Schedule your exam time online 24/7 as soon as you receive confirmation of eligibility. There is no charge for scheduling changes made 30 days or more in advance of exam day. It is very important to schedule your testing early!

State-of-the-Art Test Centers. Expanded locations across the country provide quiet, low-stress testing environments staffed with helpful experts and the latest technology, including noise-cancelling headphones.

Same Content.  The CHES® and MCHES® examination content will not change. It will just be delivered in a computerized format complete with easy tutorials and point-and-click navigation.

Immediate Results.  CHES® candidates will receive an unofficial pass/fail result before you leave the facility. Official score reports and certificates will be processed and mailed after the exam window closes.

Note about MCHES® scoring: Due to the smaller number of eligible MCHES® candidates, this exam is officially scored after all candidates have completed the exam in order to provide the most reliable scoring results as advised by expert psychometricians, and to protect the validity and accuracy of the exam.

Test Site Scheduling

Prometric has hundreds of testing sites located throughout the country to choose from.  Site selection and scheduling will be completed on the Prometric.com website after a candidate has received his/her eligibility determination from NCHEC. Candidates will be able to search, select and schedule testing dates and locations 24/7.  Special accomodations are available at all test centers, and must be requested by contacting NCHEC staff.
