NCHEC Can Help You Hire a CHES® and/or MCHES®

To assist in your search for CHES® and/or MCHES®, NCHEC will post job announcements on the Web site free of charge.

The only requirement is that the description must indicate that a CHES® and/or MCHES® is preferred or required.

  • Conduct Evaluation and Research Related to Health Education/Promotion
  • Administer and Manage Health Education/Promotion
  • Serve as a Health Education/Promotion Resource Person
  • Communicate, Promote and Advocate for Health and the Profession of Health Education/Promotion

Health Education Specialist--The Learning Center

The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston is one of the world's most respected centers focused on cancer patient care, research, education and prevention.  It was named the nation's No. 1 hospital for cancer care in the U.S. News & World Report's 2018 rankings.  It is one of the nation's original three comprehensive cancer centers designated by the National Cancer Institute.

Medical Reference Desk--Performs all duties consistent with the delivery of Medical Reference Service.  Staffs The Learning Center (TLC) information desk, responding to requests from all patrons.  Answers reference questions; alerts patrons to the variety of different media that may be utilized.  Provides supportive reference services, virtual reference and bibliographic assistance as needed.  Assists patrons with challenging requests by providing detailed information consults.  Evaluates appropriateness of information based on patron needs.  Evaluates The Learning Center education processes and programs and integrates health education best practices as warranted.

Topical Specialization and Collection Development--Develops supportive bibliographic material (such as Recommended Resources using the LibGuides platform, etc.) on cancer and health topics.  Assesses gaps for that topic, searches for appropriate resources for use in The Learning Center.  Maintains continual awareness of changes and emerging medical practices that may impact each topic.  Demonstrates use of technology to interact with Learning Center patrons.

Networks and Promotes The Learning Center and Patient Education--Networks and promotes The Learning Center and Patient Education with patients, staff, faculty and peers.  Will involve patient teaching.

Experience Required

Required: 2 years experience coordinating patient education programs Education Required: Bachelor's Degree in Public Health, Health Education, Community Health Education or related field Preferred: CHES or MCHES certification or eligible


Range: $52,000 annually to $78,000 annually dependent on experience
