Program Manager, Multicultural Education

Position Summary

The primary objective of the Program Manager, Multicultural Education is to support Susan G. Komen in achieving our overall Vision and Mission by designing, developing and evaluating culturally-competent breast health and breast cancer education programs for diverse populations; identifying gaps, needs and opportunities to develop relationships, messages and programs that reflect Komen’s commitment to inclusion, service, and achieving health equity; and ensuring all educational messages, materials and programs are current, safe, accurate, consistent, reader-friendly, culturally responsive and evidenced-based.

The Program Manager serves within the Education and Patient Support team of Komen’s Mission division. Each year Komen and its Affiliates support community-based programs that address barriers and needs related to breast cancer. These local programs aim to change behaviors and increase access to quality breast health care through programs that provide breast cancer screening, diagnosis, patient navigation, treatment and education programs.


Primary Responsibilities:  

  • Manages the development, monitoring, measurement, evaluation, reporting and promotion of new and existing domestic and international breast health and breast cancer programs for the Hispanic/Latino, LGBTQ, Black and African-American, and other diverse communities.  
  • Analyzes education product needs based on input from the Affiliates, and internal Headquarter departments, potential community partners, surveys and/or scientific research findings and the general public.    
  • Plans, coordinates and facilitates the development of trainings related to breast health and breast cancer content, including the design, development of curriculum, audiovisual aids and support materials utilizing adult learning principles for face-to-face, online and blended learning modalities.  
  • Works with internal and external stakeholders to leverage, enhance and expand targeted programs for specific diverse communities.   
  • Manages the review and update for numerous educational materials to ensure the information is current, safe, accurate, consistent, reader-friendly, culturally responsive and evidenced-based   
  • Partners with stakeholders and community organization to complete projects, outlining plan, including scope, deliverables, required resources, budget and timing.  
  • Identifies community partners for collaboration on the development and dissemination of educational programs to maximize effectiveness and outreach of educational programs to diverse audiences.  
  • Researches breast cancer related topics, issues and educational needs of specified audiences. Maintains a broad working knowledge of latest breast cancer information.  
  • Maintains knowledge of existing, traditional and trending multicultural approaches to health education.  
  • Provides content expertise by participating in meetings that support new and ongoing revenue opportunities and relationships through partnership with revenue, marketing and communication.  
  • Provides technical expertise to staff and the Affiliate Network via the helpdesk ticket system and myKomen to review and edit materials with breast health/cancer information and respond to questions from the field, clarify issues, provide information or guidance related to materials or messages as appropriate.  
  • Manages, reviews, monitors and reports accurate budget data for assigned projects.  
  • Develops policies, procedures and recommendations for Senior Director's consideration.  
  • Represents Komen at national meetings, exhibits, presentations and external meetings.  
  • Promotes an organizational culture that values trust, commitment to the mission, scientific integrity, and professional and organizational growth.  

Experience Required

Minimum Experience Required: • MS or MA in health education, health communications, public health or a related health field • 7 -10 years’ experience in a health education or health related field. • Experience with multicultural project management with program design, development, measurement, evaluation and communication in a health education, health communications or public health environment. • Intermediate-level knowledge of breast health/breast cancer issues and information. Preferred Experience: - Master’s degree in public health, education, or related relevant field. - Experience working within a federated model or for a national organization with local chapters. - CHES or MCHES certification
