Tobacco Prevention and Control Program Manager

Position Overview:

Adagio Health is the manager of Tobacco Prevention and Control programs in Allegheny County. Known as the Regional Primary Contractor (RPC), Adagio Health is funded by the Pennsylvania Department of Health to accomplish four primary objectives:

  1. Prevention initiation of tobacco use among youth and young adults
  2. Promote cessation efforts among adults and youth to address use of all tobacco products
  3. Eliminate exposure to secondhand smoke
  4. Identify and eliminate tobacco and all other tobacco products disparities

The Program Manager will be tasked to manage the project and staff in Allegheny County, which includes a team of five direct reports, to achieve project and grant deliverables. The Program Manager will provide oversight and management of several subcontractors and external partners to achieve outlined deliverables.  In addition, the Program Manager with co-supervise a regional coalition of partners with similar goals and objectives. The candidate should have sound fiscal, program management, and personnel management skills.

A Day in the Life of a Program Manager:

The Program Manager works on a variety of activities, which include managing projects and supervising staff; managing subcontractors and external partners; collaborating with internal partners and other departments; oversight of project budgets; identifying new partnerships; managing relationships with funders; preparing reports for supervisor, leadership, and funders; developing necessary projects and pilots to address gaps in services. The position reports to the Senior Director of Health Promotion and Disease Prevention.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s (preferred) degree in public health, public administration, social work, or other social science field preferred
  • 3-5 years related professional experience
  • Ability to organize time and manage diverse activities
  • Proven organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong leadership, communication, and leadership skills
  • Management experience required  
  • Experience in managing external partners
  • Experience with databases, spreadsheets, and presentations
  • Interest in health promotion and disease prevention
  • CHES and/or MCHES is preferred
  • All applicants must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 and provide proof of vaccination upon hire.
